...Wow, what a revelation!
So if you’re like me, you’ve gat a completed book: novel, non-fiction, memoir, whatever. And you want to see it published. But now you’re facing one of the most difficult challenges a writer can face: condensing it all into a 3 or 4 page synopsis, and writing a brilliant query that will fill your inbox with offers from agents.
It’s a huge challenge; not as challenging as writing the book itself, but brain-taxing and seriously time-consuming. I know because I’ve done it with two different novels. And sadly, in both cases, the result was the same: a lackluster synopsis and query that took me weeks to write and generated polite, but very definite rejections.
So when I heard about Book Deal Master Class I was intrigued: skeptical of course (synopsis and query for a book that hasn’t even been uploaded?) but frustrated enough I was willing to try something different. As they say, time is money.
So I signed up. And wow, what a revelation! I submitted samples of my writing, answered a few descriptive questions, and presto chango, I had a draft of a professional query... it had all the elements agents look for: the narrative hook, the book category, comparables, the market gap it would fill, and the personal background that explains why me?
At that point, all I had to do was tidy it up, change the phrasing here and there, emphasize or deemphasize some facet, and I had it. And the truly great thing was I’d only invested about two hours in the whole process— minuscule compared to the days I’d spent coming up with an inferior product.
Same with the synopsis. I responded thoughtfully to a list of key questions— characters and their motivations, turning points, epiphanies, and most importantly, a couple of lines summarizing what the book was about., This took a little longer, maybe an hour and a half. But a couple of days after submitting I had clear, concise, three-page distillation of my novel.
-An excellent foundation on which I could build a compelling synopsis. The process had not only saved me untold hours, but also gave me the perspective I needed to render the true essence of the story.
So, if like me you’re looking for a way to develop a compelling query and synopsis, without spending weeks, even months of your precious time—time that could be devoted to your next project—then I highly recommend Book Deal Master Class.
Best,
Dave Jones
